Got an email from a reader who noted that the Bit.ly URL in my Twitter post about Asness vs. Obama wasn’t working. Anyone who wants to check out the hedge fund manager’s letter can see it here: http://zerohedge.blogspot.com/2009/05/cliff-asness-i-am-ready-for-my.html Cliff’s last line is “I am ready for my ‘personalized’ tax rate now,” which reminds me of the kind of ranty letters I saw during my brief time at a newspaper. About 3/4 of the complaints that came in ended with some variation of “But you won’t dare print this letter.” Tough talk! The readers never seemed to realize that the only thing the editors cared about was if someone pointed out an error in a story. Charges of bias, or fear of the Man, or of being The Man, etc. had no impact. And the only thing that determined what letters ran were if they were interesting.
