I’ve only been to Dubai once, but it didn’t take “whispers” to figure out there was some serious rust behind that gleaming skyline. One morning on my way to do some interviews I watched bus after bus — all with iron bars over their windows — bring in foreign indentured servants workers to a job site.
Still, I can’t get enough of these Dubai meltdown stories. I just wish the Post had picked someone besides this guy (I wonder who wrote his Wikipedia page?) to profile as a way to tell the Dubai foreigners-in-trouble story. (So far, nothing rivals this article from a London Independent columnist. He focuses, in part, on a Canadian living in a Range Rover as she awaits her husband’s release from debtor’s prison .)
There are red flags all over the WP story of escaping from Dubai. Let’s just start with the fact that the the main character says he was a French spy and end with the fact that he ran a company making “leisure submarines for the wealthy.” I’m tempted to take some of my Madoff money and invest with this dude!
The AdSense algorithm, by the way, matched this article with two ads for the Ford Escapes (they handle the waters between Dubai and India beautifully) and one from a Dubai job recruiter. I don’t think you’re doing it right, TeleportMyJob.com.
