I’m moving next week and have become obsessed with EveryBlock. The hyperlocal site compiles every bit of data it can find for some set area around a location you give it. So for the last few months I’ve followed every restaurant inspection, graffiti removal, Yelp review and blog post that has to do with the half mile around my apartment.

One of the most intriguing aspects of EveryBlock is that they also give you Flickr feeds of any photo taken within your zone. I’m not sure who geotags their pictures, but apparently people do it. So I’m constantly looking at shots of and by my soon-to-be neighbors. Today there was a series of pictures of a showerhead. Why? I have no idea. But I’ve seen that showerhead from every angle. And I know Pete P., the owner of the Flickr site, is super into it.

It’s weird to know that the person I’m jogging past or possibly riding the elevator with is the same showerhead-obsessed photographer I’m now following. I know more about my neighbors than I ever wanted to thanks to EveryBlock, just not which neighbors I’m now intimate with.
